Complimentary Paralysis
I have one friend who really, really listens intently to what you say. It's tremendously flattering, and sometimes, depending on your particular level of self-confidence that day, a little unnerving.
When I talk to her, she leans forward, and stops moving, and looks me right in the eye. No one else I can think of does this. I find myself choosing my words very carefully, then harshly judging the ones that fall out before I can stop them.
And if that wasn't bad enough, today she called me a wonderful writer.
What is this woman, crazy? Is she trying to kill me?
If she gets any more kind and considerate, I don't know if I'll be able to stand her.
