Best Kernels of Popcorn?

I have a request for you.

I'm working to update my site, and one of the additions I'd like to make is a sort of "Best Of" list to highlight some of the more memorable posts. You know, just in case somebody visits, sees something he or she likes then wants to browse, but isn't quite prepared to sift through 4 1/2 years of me blabbering about nothin'.

So if you could, I'd appreciate it greatly if you'll take a second to just think back and tell me a few of your favorites. You can use the search box in the upper left, there, to help jog your memory.

("You know, I kind of liked the one where he talked about cats who sail the ocean. I'll just put in "ship's cats," and... *poof*! There it is.")

Like the one where I boldly proclaimed that people are smart? Well, there it is, three years ago, just waiting for you.

Just, you know, take the same approach to choosing that I use when I'm updating my portfolio: pick the stuff you'd like to see more of.

You can let me know in the comments or via email what you come up with. And if you can't find the one you want, or just don't feel like looking, well, just let me know in the comments or via email and include a few clues, and I'll try and track it down for you. It's your big chance to shape this site for years to come!

Then, somehow, I'll get Penny or somebody smart to tell me how to add this exciting new feature to the site.

Thanks majorly, you guys. Nobody's very good at picking his best work, I don't think. And I'm no exception.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you choose.

This one is my personal favorite, but I might be slightly biased on my choice :)

o man. Okay, so I had to check out the cheetahs or snow one 'cuz that sounded familiar and it was. and then i started clicking back thru older posts and started marking every other one. Because Holy Monkey, you are good. And you are at your very very best when you are talking about the little nothings that make life something.

I'm not sure if we are suppose to be searching out the ones that have deep MEANING or are beautifully written or just what, but these are my faves (some of them) mostly because they put you RIGHT THERE, in that moment, in your orange bearded head, in your life and that just makes me feel good for some reason.

and also? I'd like to see a comprehensive list of all your category topics, 'cuz they always make me laugh and also sorta wonder if you really do have a category devoted to say actual pregnant women or fanged and cancerous alien growths somewhere. :D

xo some more, Wee

and P.S. some more.... I can't help but wonder if you are off having your cinder block right this very minute. Because you could be.

Oh, thank you thank you thank you, Wee! First, for actually rereading some old stuff and secondly for liking it. Penny points out to me that it's a lot to ask, this request of mine, and she's usually right. So I really appreciate it.

The observation that I'm at my best when chronicling "the little nothings that make life something" is just a wonderful bonus. Like I said, it's very hard for me to know what I do well, but the more I think about it, the less I could disagree. (And I have to say I kind of like it...)

Perhaps I should do a supplementary list of Best Wee Comments from the blog, while I'm at it! Digging through the archives is revealing so many great ones that I'm realizing they're one of my favorite parts of the site!

Well, I haven't been reading for as long as you've been writing, but the ones that come immediately to mind are:

The one about Penny breaking your finger (one of the best love letters I've ever read).

The Young MC one.

Hold on, I was thinking of doing something like this on my blog, but it's not quite so old as yours. You have a lot of really good stuff. Maybe you should just rotate a selection of 5 or so periodically. That way, maybe you'll pick some that I haven't even read yet or that I forgot that I loved.

That's what I think.

O yeah! Ryan's right! The mashed finger one is the best! The one about you finding out Penny was preggers and traveling cross country was excellent also... made me weep. And I also like the Lucky Charms one. And the one about collateral benefits.

Hell, Col, I like 'em all. It's hard to chose! Although ...okay... I'm gonna be honest, and maybe this is a girl thing, or maybe it's just a wee thing, but I tend to ... um ... skim ... the ones that are about motorcycles or car parts or tech gadgets.

And I do appreciate the bit about my comments. It made me laugh. My comments as of late have been few and far between and lacking the old sparkle of yore... but the most magical comment was the one you translated into pirate speak. I almost wet my pants laughing when I found it again!

And btw, reading back thru your greatest hits was a real pleasure to me on a snowbound afternoon!

and for your amusement... my word verification code for this comment is "sprob" which I think would be an excellent nickname for the cinder block. :D

Unfortunately my memory already doesn't work like I wish it did, or I imagine like it should for my age. BUT, what I do recall vividly is laughing uncontrollably when I read your blog post about mystery meatless (I think it was called). I'll see if I can't jog the ol' noggin for some more in my copious free time today since no one in their right mind wants to drive to see me.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to do this for me. You've warmed this ol' writer's heart.

And Wee: thanks for the name suggestion for our cinder block friend! I was gonna just go with "Cindy," but "Sprob" is even better.

Colin,

Here's my favorite:

Honkers and Nonhonkers. As a nonhonker myself, but being married to a honker, I completely relate to this. I still laughed out loud a little just now re-reading it.

Oh...I completely spaced this in my reply. I wanted to tell you and Penelope I'll be thinking about you and the new bundle of joy, whenever she comes!
